Week 4

I had five students for my office hours on Tuesday, and one could only stay for about fifteen minutes. Since there weren't too many people, I was able to do more for each student, which I was happy to be able to do. Two students stayed for almost the entire time.

On Wednesday, I had ten students, all of whom stayed for a while, so it was significantly more busy. I helped them solve questions, and tried to clarify conceptual issues, but it was hard to make sure that one student understood everything without neglecting other students' questions.  By the end, though, I was able to address everything.

Week 4

This week was a pretty quiet week during my Wednesday and Thursday office hours.  This was probably due to the test last week in Dr. Nero's class. On Wednesday I had a student come in to discuss some homework questions that she was having trouble with.  On Thursday, nobody came during the 2 hour office hour session.  Previously, there have been anywhere from 10-15 students who come in with questions on the Thursday office hours.

Week 4

This week I didn't have anyone come to my office hours. The lack of attendance has been a little disappointing. I have been excited to help students out but it doesn't seem like they need any assistance (or at least they are coming to look for it). The class has been going at an easy pace so I guess students haven't had too much trouble keeping up. Hopefully I will get some visitors during office hours next week.

Week 5

This week's UTA sessions were a mix of highs and lows.  Monday's session had no attendees, possibly due to the room switch.  As Dr. Salman published the link to the UTA calendar, hopefully any room changes will no longer be an issue.  Friday's session had 5 students from the class, including 3 who had come to a prior session.  The students had several questions about the PLA, the majority of which concerned how to properly input an equation into the system.  This has been a recurring issue that should be addressed (possibly by not using the Sapling software), as students have the correct answer but the program does not recognize that it is correct.  After the questions regarding the PLA were addressed, we covered the entire worksheet.  Overall, Friday's session seemed to be successful.

A total of 41 students showed up for office hours. Students had a lot of trouble with homework problems and the concepts behind them. Students were very confused by a problem that involved calculus. I was confused since this is a non calculus physics course, but I was able to get the answer after giving the problem a try.

Week 4

Once again, no students came to my office hours this week.  I prepared for the office hours by watching the video modules, going over the week's homework, and preparing some review topics for discussion.  I also thought about how I might advise students in regards to their equation sheets.  When I spoke to some students outside of class and office hours, they said that they thought the test had gone well.

This week there were 4 students who came out to office hours for homework help. I tried to set up the problem and they were able to figure it out for the most part. I tried to reference physics as mostly "setting up the scenario," and it helped the students.
