Week 11

I helped one student prepare for their upcoming test. We worked on rotational kinematics problems, and focused on moments of inertia. Another student from modern physics came to office hours as well, and we did some homework problems. The student from physics 0110 seemed to understand the material, I only clarified a few points that they found confusing. The student from modern physics and I figured out problems on radioactivity. Overall, it was a productive day. I expect more students from physics 0110 to show up in the coming weeks seeing as we are nearing finals week.

Week 10

No students showed up to office hours this week. This makes sense as it was the week after an exam. I think more students will show up in the upcoming weeks because we will be starting rotational kinematics.

Week 9

No students came this week, but there is an exam next week so I am expecting to see a few students next week coming in for some exam prep.  Currently, the class is covering magnetic fields from currents and induction.

Week 9

Bhupinder Singh Professor Liu Tuesday Thursday 6pm-7:20pm This week, I only had one student come to office hours. He came to get some help on webassign. Other than that, no one else has come to office hours this week. I believe we are approaching the third exam of the semester, so people should start coming to office hours this week in order to prep better for the final exam. Other than that, I hope I get students this week during office hours.

Week 9

Three students came to my office hours this week.  We discussed simple harmonic motion and applied Hooke's Law to some problems.  There were a few questions on the homework that they were unable to get on their own at first, but soon understood the correct method.  They were able to do similar problems after having done the sample ones.

Week of March 21st

I had 6 familiar faces come to office hours this week.  We mostly went over homework problems or video checkpoint problems. The students seemed to struggle most with simple harmonic motion, especially trying to convert word problems into knowns/unknowns for relevant equations. I'm expecting more students to come in next week with the upcoming exam.

Week 10

Tom Reynolds
Physics 175
Dr. Paolone T TH 11

Surprisingly, no students came to my office hours this week.  In lecture, the class is learning about some of the really cool stuff involving Maxwell's equations.  Some of the most interesting demonstrations happen at this point in the semester.  Next week is the test so maybe I'll see some students then.

Week 10

One student came to office hours this week. We worked on some energy conservation problems that the student was confused about. At the end of our help session, the student felt more comfortable with problems of this type, and seemed to better understand the material.

Week 8

The same students that attended my office hours last week were present this week.  Again, We reviewed some of the homework problems as well as book problems.  I believe both students were much more comfortable with the current subjects being discussed in lecture after the office hours.

Week 9

Tom Reynolds
Physics 175
Dr. Paolone T TH 11

No students came last week; however,  I had a good conversation with the other UTA in the room on Thursday about a variety of topics in physics.  Other than that most of my time was spent doing work. In lecture, the class is learning about induction.  There is a test coming up so I will be prepared for students to come seeking some last minute help.

Week 9

No students showed up to office hours which was surprising as they had an exam on Wednesday. However, Multiple students did contact me to arrange meetings. We went over concepts and problems relating to pulleys, momentum, and energy conservation. The students seemed to have a good grasp of the topics already, only needing some clarifications.

Week 8

Bhupinder Singh Professor Liu Tuesday Thursday 6pm-7:20pm This week only two students came to my office hours. They asked questions about webassign, which I was more than happy to help them with. Other than that, no one else came to my office hours. I expect students to start showing up since the third exam is coming up, so hopefully I get more students this week. Along with that, I think the lack of students coming to office hours can also be credited to Dr. Liu being an excellent professor. He explains concepts really well, leaving very little room for confusion.

Week of March 14th

No students attended my sessions this week.

Week of March 14th

This was a relatively slow week of office hours.  I had a total of 6 students show up throughout the week.  Most students were just asking for help on a question or two of homework problems.  The biggest conceptual difficulties I saw pertained to moments of inertia or how to use the variables in rotational kinematic equations.  However, for the most part, I felt that the students had a pretty good grasp of the material.

Weeks 7 and 8

One person came during these two weeks which is somewhat surprising considering the average on their second exam was much lower than on their first.  The class is currently beginning to cover magnetism.

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

Week 8

Tom Reynolds
Physics 175
Dr. Paolone T Th 11:00

There was an exam the previous week so I guess the class does not have any questions yet about the new material. No one came.  The average on the test was significantly lower than on the first one so maybe they will come in the future.

Week 8

No students came to office hours this week. Hopefully I will get some visitors during my next session because it will be the week before the students' exam.

Week 8

On Tuesday, no students came to my office hours.

On Wednesday, some students came to my office hours for an exam prep session. I had prepared a list of practice problems to go over with them, and none of them were particularly challenged by the problem set. Students did, however, come with questions about approaches to these problems. The students were mostly challenged by the abstract concepts of chapters 18 & 19 (Electric force, electric field, and voltage). I focused on trying to relate electric field to force & voltage to potential energy in mechanical analogs, but I struggled to help them gain intuition.

Week 8

Nobody came to office hours this past week. I am expecting students the week after spring break as they have an exam coming up.

Week of February 29th

Danielle Newman
MWF 1:00-1:50 pm Matteo Broccio

This week I had 3 people come to office hours on Monday and 5 on Thursday night. In addition, I held review sessions on Thursday night and Friday morning before the exam to go over a practice exam. I had 26 students on Thursday night and 5 on Friday morning. In office hours, the questions were mostly on previous homeworks and the recommended problems. I think everyone was well-prepared for the exam and I'm ready to help out students on the third section of the material.

Weeks 8&9

No one came to office hours during week 8, this is not surprising seeing as it was the week before spring break. Week 9 was the week of spring break and there were no office hours.

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

Week 8

Bhupinder Singh Professor Liu Tuesday Thursday 6pm-7:20pm This week no one came to my office hours. I expected this because the night before my office hours was exam day, so I knew no one would show up. This time everyone was finished with the exam relatively quickly, so I'm assuming everything did fairly well on the exam. Hopefully students keep up their good work after spring break, because the third half of the course was a little tricky for me, so I'm going to try to make it less painful for any student needing extra help.

Week of Feb 29th.

This week of office hours went very well. I had 5 students come into my regular office hours on Monday and Wednesday. These students mostly came in with questions regarding homework problems from previous weeks, in order to review for the Friday exam. I also held a review session on Tuesday night where 21 students showed up.  I had a few worksheets I gave out to the students that covered topics from each chapter that was on the exam. We first went over conceptual highlights from each chapter then solved some recommended problems together on the board.  I hope this was helpful for the students in studying for their exam.

Week 7

Bhupinder Singh Professor Liu Tuesday Thursday 6pm-7:20pm This past week a student came to get some help on webassign.Other than that, it seemed like everyone was prepared for the exam coming up this week. Hopefully, I was able to help the student understand the theory behind magnetic field. I think everyone seems prepared for the exam because Professor Liu is doing a wonderful job explaining every single concept. I'm sure no one will come next week because there is an exam next week and Spring Break right after that.

Week 7

This week was similar to the last one.  The same two students came to my office hours with questions about the homework.  This week we went over work and energy.  They had no problems quickly understanding the concepts and were able to do the homework on their own.

Week 7

Tom Reynolds
Physics 175
Dr. Paolone T TH 11

No one came this week. There was an exam on Thursday but I guess the class felt sufficiently prepared.  Hopefully in the future more students will come.
