This week I prepared for office hours by reviewing the test material and going over old homework assignments and practice problems. I had two students show up for my first hour, and one returned for the second one for some last-minute advice. I mainly helped them with their problem-solving approach, emphasizing drawing pictures before writing equations and leaving equations as variables as long as possible.
The group problems in class are going well. I am getting better at challenging students' initial assumptions and getting them to combine different concepts to solve multi-step problems. We will be having think-aloud hours the week of 11/9, so I'm getting excited for that.
